Pictures from the NJ Hot Dog Tour, 17 September 2005

First stop of the day. We were the first to arrive for the tour. We had our first dog of the day at 11:10 a.m.

Everywhere we went, we were served happy hot dogs!

On the left, one with just mustard (the best mustard of the day) and on the right, one with mustard and fried onions.

I dragged along my friends Jim and Nancy Tretick for the tour.

Me, my dog, and my hot dog earrings.

In the center is John Fox, our tour leader, flanked by Bob (alesrus) and Sue (aleswench)

Tour organizer Benzee, sporting one of ConeyIslandLou's specially designed tour t-shirts. To his right in the stripped polo shirt is Mr. Phil.

Bob and his dog.

The troublemakers always sit in the back of the bus. Howard (aka Signman) taking in the scene. Notice he is wearing his ocdreamr-designed Crabstock shirt!

Bob and Sue sat behind us. Thank goodness they didn't kick the back of our seats.

John narrated our stops as we went.

Aaaahhh!!! The driver doesn't have his hands on the wheel!!!!

Scallion1 raring to go.

Second dog of the day: Father and Son Luncheonette.

All of us trying to fit in the door.

They opened an outside window for us.

At the counter at Father and Son. Jim is making tasting notes while Nancy talks with Joanne Friend, friend of John's wife Pat.

BrooklynBill and wife Ginny sit at the counter, too.

The dog from Father and Son, with their DELICIOUS chili.

Sidewalk dining at its finest.

Third dog: Jerry's

We had ours with mustard, onions, and chili. Their chili was more like an oniony chili sauce and was kind of sweet.

Here I am, stuffing my face again.....

Just down the street from Jerry's was Tommy's.

My friend Jim decided a few deep knee bends were in order! Actaully he is lining up his sausage shot.

Always tuck in your napkin when eating a hot dog.

The Italian dog from Tommy's. I swear it is in there! They serve it in pizza bread (too doughy).

Bob, Sue, and L'il Dog (longdog's son)

The sausage from Tommy's. Yeah, you can't see it, but it was there. Underneath heaps of onions, peppers, and potatoes. The onions were delicious.

Ellen4641 makes it a picnic.

Next up: Manny's Texas Weiners.

Seen at the counter of Manny's.

Manny's was the most accomodating and welcoming stop of the day. Here is their dog with chili, mustard and onions.

Jim and Nancy enjoying their dawgs.

Coney Island Lou.

The owner of Manny's with Benzee and Seafarer John.

Syd's--my favorite stop of the day.

The counter at Syd's.

Syd's boiled, then grilled, dog with yummy mustard and HOT HOT relish on the side.

The kraut dog from Tabatchnick's. The kraut was a little to sour, but the big, sausage like dog was terrific.

Tabatchnick's is more well known as a great Jewish deli. We got some chopped herring to go.

I think somebody needs to do a corned beef and pastrami tour.

Tabatchnick's and Syd's are in the same shopping plaza.

My hubby Thomas and our tour bus.

Our intrepid driver. He deftly maneuvered some pretty tight parking lots!

Hot Grill also servers Texas Weiners.

The bus riders line up.

The dog with chili from the Hot Grill. Their chili was spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg and cloves--much like a Cincinnati chili.

Last stop of the day: Rutt's Hut.

The ripper.

Now dressed in their neon-yellow relish. It was mustardy and sweet.

What a creamator looks like. It's dead. And so were we all by the end of the day.
